In Business – Every Bit You Lie to Yourself, You Lie to Someone Else

On my Kairos Athletics blog, I wrote a post, Step 1 – Honesty – Strong in Life; Strong in Sport, about how you must be HONEST to succeed in sports.

The work that one does to honestly improve one’s game is the same work that you do to improve in life.

Strong in Sport; Strong in Life; Strong in Business

The HONEST approach highlighted in the blog that I will republish below is no different than the approach that one must take to improve in business:

Are your sales increasing? Are you seeing a positive and enthusiastic response to your marketing? Are you negotiating for the best financing? Are you consistently staying with the trends in your industry?

All the above questions must be answered honestly to see optimal improvement.

Business Building Builds Character

It is not often stated – Enhancing your business will build your character.

Challenging business environments will require you to become more disciplined. Greedy and Dishonest business partners will force you to develop greater Patience and skills in negotiating to rid yourself of these hindrances. Temptations to cut corners and do harm to the environment or even your customers must be circumnavigated.

Maintaining an inventory of your strengths and weaknesses as a businessperson will help you to cultivate an awareness of how you can best improve yourself and your company. You must play to your strengths and eliminate weaknesses.

Read the following from Kairos Athletics written for student athletes and peak performers. You will learn more about the Honesty required to achieve. You will see the striking similarities between business building and sports performance…

Step 1: Honesty – Strong in Life; Strong in Sport

The idea that a righteous life will make us stronger is at the core of many philosophies and religions. Kairos Athletics offers this at the core of sport.

Coaches often ask athletes to “stay out of trouble”, but they offer no guide or fail to fully inspire the athlete to do so. The Kairos Athletics concepts offer some general tenets that we ask the athlete to “work” throughout his/her striving.

Strength begins with honesty.

Consider what you know of great performers’ mentalities – Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Martina Navratilova, Muhammad Ali, Roger Federer.

In countless interviews, these peak performers explain how they constantly worked on eliminating weaknesses. One of the hardest things to do is to look in the mirror and see what is truly looking back at you. However, to grow stronger the athlete must develop the ability to identify weakness and eliminate it.

Being an honest person is not something you can turn on and off.

Therefore, an athlete truly set on achieving their full potential must commit his or her self to being honest away from sport as well as inside of it. Lies to other people will indefinitely turn into lies to one’s self. Any athlete truly serious about reaching peak performance will make it a priority to be an honest person to enhance their performance. Sport makes one strong in life.

Analyze your game and list your strengths and weaknesses.

Then, make a plan to eliminate weaknesses and improve strengths. The second part is the art. You can keep coming back to Kairos Athletics for help.
